Chess Club

Chess is used to develop strategic and critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, and competitive maturity. The Ponderosa Chess Club is open to all Ponderosa Elementary School students to teach beginners how to play, while providing experienced players the opportunity to participate in both recreational and competitive matches. Knowledge of chess is not required. Students learn to play and enjoy chess, while experiencing healthy competition and team spirit.

Battle of the Books – (B.O.B)

Battle of the Books (B.O.B) is a voluntary reading program for students in grades 3-5. Students read books and usually compete in groups to demonstrate their abilities by answering questions to test their knowledge of the books they have read. The competition will be in a quiz-bowl type format. The purpose is to encourage students to read good books and have fun while competing with other students. View the most current book list by clicking on the B.O.B icon above.

 Junior Beta Club

The Junior Beta Club is an academic honors program.  The Junior Division of The National Beta Club is for students in grades 5 through 9. The purpose of the Junior Beta Club is to recognize outstanding achievement, promote character and social responsibility, encourage service involvement to school and community, foster leadership skills, grant scholarships, and provide settings for your child to develop interpersonal relationship skills.
